Polyphasic Sleeping Log
Day 1:
I plan to have my naps at 12, 4 and 8 both AMs and PMs. I got up at 8:20 because that is when I will usually be getting up, then I had a twenty minute nap at 12. I lied down on the floor and didn't get to sleep and I didn't expect to but trying to fall asleep even when I can't is a lot better than not trying, for the adaptation. It was sunny and I wore a sleeping mask. I put a second alarm clock in my room to help wake me up in the future when I am sleep deprived in case I sleep through the first alarm. I missed my four O'Clock nap since I had to go to a social event but then I had my eight O'Clock nap afterwards, where I was awake as well. I had been rather alert during today and I haven't felt much sleepy yet even though it is past my bedtime, probably because I'm use to staying up often.
Day 2:
I had my midnight nap and the one at four. I didn't sleep at any of those times, at least I don't think so, maybe I did at four but I don't remember it. I think I should start sleeping soon, as I get more sleep deprived. I feel tired but also quite awake. In the time I've been awake, I've been working on my huge gmod developer playground map, trying to remix some music, continuing to learn to play still alive from portal on piano, reading about polyphasic sleeping on the internet and writing this log. I found that its cold at night, especially when I try to nap as my bedroom is not near the fire. I am also hungry, which is expected. I would like to eat at least a small meal instead of just snacks but I don't want to risk making light or noise that will disturb my family.
I have had my 8pm and 12 pm naps and I might have slept in them, but I didn't notice if I had or not. I had to delay my 8pm nap by 20 minutes to watch Dr Who with my family.
Day 3:
I woke up at around 3am this morning wondering what was happenning. I eventually found that when I set my alarms I didn't get the time correct and as a result they didn't go off and I slept for hours. Then I went back to bed until 8am, my normal time of getting up, because I decided to start over. Oversleeping like I did would have destroyed all my progress since when adapting, you have to be very strict or your patterns won't change.
I haven't slept for the rest of the naps of the day, and I also had to delay a nap by an hour to practise parkour with a friend. Delaying naps by up to an hour I've heard is okay while missing naps or oversleeping isn't.
Day 4:
At midnight I didn't sleep either and I'm a bit more tired. I've read somewhere online that some people how found it easier to sleep with hour long naps and then shorten it by 15 minutes each week until at the desired time. I've also become less motivated to do polyphasic sleeping right now because my holidays aren't really long. I think most of the time will be taken up by adapting and school will start as soon as I'm comfortable with the schedule and I'd have to change back. So I think I will stop trying the uberman schedule and wait half a year until school is temporarily gone for 6 weeks. It has been fun though.
